Giorgio Pressburger

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

"I want to start by thanking fate that led me to discover, by chance, what it really means to belong to the human community of the living and the dead. " - G.P.

An adventurous life marked by great artistic and cultural vigour, constant study and research, and a propensity for knowledge, confrontation and dialogue. Giorgio Pressburger, born György (b. Budapest, 21 April 1937 – d. Trieste, 5 October 2017) was a Hungarian writer, journalist, playwright and director, naturalized Italian, one of the most significant figures in the cultural landscape of the 20th century.

A borderless Mitteleuropean intellectual with a strong innovative spirit, shaped by and actively involved in the great upheavals of the 20th century that had left visible scars on him. His personal story and family history are somehow magically intertwined with the recollections of the century, evoking its stories, violence, art and passions.

The Exhibition

The Association promotes and realises exhibition projects dedicated to the enhancement of the G.P. Collection, the memory of Giorgio Pressburger and the dissemination of knowledge of his works.
In particular, the exhibition ‘Giving Thanks to Fate. Journey Through the Century of Giorgio Pressburger’, is a tribute to the great intellectual and his many prestigious collaborations throughout his long international career. It offers a glimpse into the past century and human creativity in general. An intense journey of reflection that begins in Budapest’s 8th district, the exhibition is far from being a straight and ordered sequence of chronological events. It is rather a stream of consciousness that wavers between past, present and future, to discover how “all lives are intertwined with each other”.

“The trilogy closes with a moving testamentary reflection on the meaning of existence, memory and, more generally, the ‘meaninglessness’ of human life, to which no answers can be given. Beautiful and moving”. Paolo Mereghetti
